Kevin Komisaruk (b. 1971), Lecturer in Performance at the University of Toronto, is a Canadian-American concert musician and research specialist in palliative/long-term care and bereavement. As a soloist, he has performed and broadcast throughout throughout North America and Europe, and produced two discs with ATMA Records which received several international citations. He maintains a private practice performing acoustic clavichord at bedside, and is participating in the development of performance-healthcare curriculum at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, where he has taught since 2003. His research and teaching explore the ways in which nuances of advanced musical interpretation may impact the efficacy of music in treating pain and anxiety for palliative individuals. Komisaruk’s research also explores concepts of transcendence in music as they relate to performance pedagogy and intersect with contemplative practices including meditation, spirituality, and psychodynamic therapy.
